Why this website exists
The idea of an IQ score often sounds more complicated than the test behind it. Before you focus on the number, it helps to understand the machinery underneath: what you are actually being asked to solve, why so many tests rely on shapes instead of words, and how much weight a single result deserves.
IQ Test Zone exists to make that straightforward. Our current test uses 40 questions, runs on a 40-minute timer, and calculates the result in your browser once you finish. Alongside it we explain, in plain terms, how the scale works and what it does not tell you.
We are an independent, non-commercial testing tool. The test is free, no purchase is required and no account is needed to see your result. There is no paid product placement on this website and nothing to buy.
Why shapes instead of words
Cognitive assessments come in several forms. Some measure vocabulary, arithmetic, memory or general knowledge. Many of the most widely used tests, though, lean heavily on visual reasoning, and there is a practical reason for that choice.
Knowledge-based questions reward what you already know. That gives an advantage to people with more schooling, wider reading, or exposure to a particular subject. Visual reasoning questions try to sidestep that gap. Rather than asking whether you recognise a fact, they show a set of shapes and ask you to work out the rule connecting them. A single question might involve rotation, symmetry, changes in position, shifts in shape, repetition, or the relationship between objects. The information you need sits right there on the screen.
That distinction matters more than it first appears. Someone can hold deep expertise in history, science or music and still perform in a completely different way on a visual reasoning task, because the two draw on separate skills. The reverse holds too: a strong result on one visual test does not capture the full range of a person’s abilities.

We do not describe this test as clinically validated, professionally administered, or a substitute for a diagnostic assessment. If a claim isn’t something we can stand behind, it does not appear on the page.
How the test is built
Every question, the scoring formula and the distribution chart were built specifically for this site. The scoring is deterministic — the same answers always produce the same score.
No paid placement
There is nothing to buy on this website and nothing being promoted. The pages here are not sponsored content, and no third party pays for placement.
Corrections
If something we publish is inaccurate or unclear, write to us and we will review it. We would rather fix a page than defend it.
Reading a score without overreading it
Your result is calculated from how many of the 40 questions you answered correctly and how quickly you finished, then mapped onto a distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. The largest share of scores falls between 85 and 115, with progressively fewer appearing as you move farther from the average in either direction.
Understanding that scale is useful. Treating one online result as a fixed measure of intelligence is not. An online assessment reflects your performance on that specific test, on that specific day, and concentration, familiarity with visual puzzles, fatigue, timing pressure and the conditions around you can all shift the outcome.
An IQ-style score also says nothing about creativity, communication, emotional skills, practical judgment, accumulated knowledge or motivation. The result can be interesting without becoming a label. It is not a clinically validated or professionally administered intelligence assessment, and it should not be used for diagnostic, medical, educational-placement or employment decisions.
